We will do everything possible to make your stay at Spencer House Bed & Breakfast most enjoyable. To ensure a very pleasant experience here, we have established the following policies. Covid-19 Policy
The health of our guests and their ability to enjoy their stay is of utmost importance to us. We continue to clean to Dept of Health and CDC guidelines and provide hand sanitizer on each floor.
Cancellation Policy
Please confirm your plans prior to making your reservation. We are a small B&B, and cancellations affect us significantly. We cannot be responsible for rooms due to late or canceled airline flights, family emergencies, threat of bad weather or other travel-related mishaps or changes in plans, which may shorten your stay. While we do empathize, we must maintain our policy. Insurance is available to protect against any unexpected events through such companies as travelguard.com. Our policy is to never overbook rooms. When we reserve a room for you, we agree to turn away all other requests for the room you select and guarantee to hold it for the nights you reserved. We are unable to make exceptions to our cancellation policy.
A one night’s deposit may be taken at the time of your reservation. Should you feel it necessary to cancel your reservation there will be no charge if that cancellation is made 8 days or more from your arrival date. For cancellations 7 days or less from your arrival date, there will be a full charge unless the room is re-rented.
For holiday weekends or special events, such as the Celebrate Erie or the Tall Ships, our cancellation policy is 21 days, and we will require a one-night deposit per room reserved. Our prices and policies may vary for special events and holiday periods.
Multiple Room Reservation Policy
For a reservation of 3 or more rooms, we require a check deposit equal to one night per room, or 50% of the entire reservation if more than 2 days, within 5 days of making the reservation. Full refund will be made if canceled prior to 30 days of the reserved dates. A 50% refund will be made if canceled prior to 15 days of the reserved dates.
Please be aware that a group booking is not a “whole house rental” due to insurance and licensing provisions. The use of the kitchen and owner’s private quarters and office spaces are not available for any rental. Guests may not host parties on site without advance permission, and these may incur additional site use fees.
Credit Card Security
WE NEED YOUR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION IN ORDER TO RESERVE A ROOM. We do not charge deposits unless it is a holiday weekend or special event. We must have a valid credit card number on file at the time of your booking, even if you are paying the balance by other means. Cash or check are preferred, but MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express and debit cards are always accepted. After your arrival at our home, you may pay with a different credit card than was used to reserve the room. Our system encrypts credit card numbers when you enter them, and the numbers are not visible to us at any time.
Children or Third Person
To maintain the ambiance in our rooms and suites and meet occupancy rules, we cannot accommodate requests for cots, air mattresses or roll-away beds. The maximum number of guests permitted overnight at the inn is 16.
CHILDREN: Spencer House Bed & Breakfast is regarded as a quiet escape and romantic getaway for most of our guests, and we work hard to foster that environment. Well-behaved children 10 AND OLDER are welcome.
We have two rooms that can accommodate more than 2 people. The Nursery has 2 double beds and can hold 4 people upon occasion. When reserving this room for more than 2 people, there is an additional cost of $35.00 each for a 3rd and 4th person. The Spencer Suite with JC’s Room can also accommodate 4 people (2 in each room); however, there is no charge for additional people as that is covered in the room charge.
Taxes
All rates are for double occupancy and subject to 6% Pa. state sales tax. By staying at a bed and breakfast in Erie, you save the additional 7% county hotel tax that would otherwise be added to a room at a hotel.
Minimum Nights
While we ask for a two-night minimum on weekends (3 nights on holiday weekends) during the summer season, there are sometimes open rooms. Thurs-Fri or Sat-Sun reservations do free up single nights. We remove minimums on the Wednesday before the weekend when rooms remain available!
Check-in/Check-out
Check-in is between 4 and 8 p.m. Early check-in at 3:00 p.m. may be available for an extra fee of $25 if our housekeeping schedule allows. This must be arranged prior to the day of arrival. Arrangements must be made in advance for late arrival, so we can tell you how to get in. If we cannot contact you, and you arrive after we have gone to bed, you will be charged for the room.
Check-out is by 11 a.m., so we can be ready for our next guests. Late check-out may be available for an extra fee of $40 for a maximum of 2 hours, if our housekeeping schedule allows and also must be arranged on the day of arrival or before.
Gift Certificates
Please be aware that we create our own gift certificates and also accept bnbfinder and PABBI gift certificates. We do NOT accept BedandBreakfast.com or other gift cards.
Smoking
We are proud to be a non-smoking inn. Smoking of tobacco products is permissible on our large front porch or anywhere outside. Electronic cigarettes may be smoked outside but must be turned off if brought into the house. For the safety and comfort of all of our guests, we do not allow fireworks, candles or incense burning in any of our guest rooms or on the grounds. Inn guests smoking in the house will be charged a minimum $250 fee + any lost reservations or additional expenses to provide other guests with acceptable accommodations while we return any room to a non-smoking status.
Alcohol
Spencer House Bed & Breakfast does not hold a license to resell alcoholic beverages. We are allowed to provide one bottle of wine per reservation as a part of a package. Guests may bring their own, but for the safety and comfort of all of our guests, please drink responsibly.
Damages
While reasonable wear and tear is anticipated, negligent damages found to be the responsibility of a guest will be assessed and charged to the guest. Please report all spills and/or damages to the innkeepers promptly.
Parking
Off-street parking is located in the back of the house. Every room rental includes one parking place in our parking lot. Street parking is also available; however, from April 1 – November 1 there are restrictions in place on Wednesdays for street sweeping. From November 1 through March 31 there are restrictions on our side on even dates for snow removal. All parking is free.
Pets
Sorry, we cannot accommodate pets, except service animals. For those with allergies, please note that we have a Labrador Retriever who lives in the owners’ quarters. He is not allowed in the guest areas of our home.
Wait List
If our rooms are full when you plan to visit our area, you can still put yourself on our wait list by entering your information under the Check Availability or Book Now tab. If a room becomes available, we will receive an automatic notification, and we will be able to contact you to give you an opportunity to book the room. Those on the wait list will be contacted in the order of when they placed their name on the list.
